Description
The Marble Angelfish (scientific name: Pterophyllum scalare) is a captivating addition to any aquarium, showcasing stunning marble patterns in a combination of colors, including black, white, and shades of grey. While originally inhabiting various river systems in Northern South America, the Marble Angelfish available in today’s market are predominantly bred in captivity, each presenting unique and intricate patterns that enhance the aesthetic of your aquatic setup.
Recognized by their graceful, elongated bodies and striking marble patterns, Marble Angelfish can grow up to 6 inches in length and reach heights of 8 inches. When designing an aquarium habitat for them, it’s crucial to consider their size requirements. While a 30-gallon tank with adequate height is suitable for a single specimen, larger tanks are preferred for groups or cohabitation with other freshwater fish.
In their natural habitat, Marble Angelfish thrive in calm, slow-moving waters with abundant vegetation, often seeking out dimly lit areas. Recreating these conditions in the aquarium setting contributes to their overall well-being. Additionally, avoid using sharp-edged substrates on the tank bottom to accommodate their foraging behavior.
Despite being relatively peaceful, Marble Angel Fish may display territorial behavior, particularly during breeding. They can coexist with other peaceful species, but caution should be exercised when housing them with smaller fish or invertebrates, as they may be perceived as prey.
