Description

Red Cryptocoryne Wendtii, also known as Red Wendt’s Cryptocoryne, is popular not only for its ease of care but also its attractive appearance with reddish brown leaves. The leaves differ considerably in size, shape, and color; this is heavily dependent on the amount of light they receive.

Red Cryptocoryne Wendtii requires a substrate that is fertilized with an iron-rich fertilizer. Regular pruning and thinning will keep it looking its best. This Cryptocoryne plant requires stable water conditions to prevent rotting of the stems and leaves. Provide at least 2 watts per gallon using full spectrum bulbs (5000-7000K). Water temperature should be between 75° and 82°F, with a dKH of 3-8 and a pH of 6.0 to 8.0.

For best results, use Red Cryptocoryne Wendtii as a solitary plant. They may also be planted in groups with good results. If planted in thick groups, all variations will grow taller and narrower. When planting in this fashion, place the smaller types in the foreground of the aquarium, with the larger ones in the center and back. Cryptocoryne propagates by growing multiple runners.

Red Cryptocoryne Wendtii Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How to Care for Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red?

Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red is a hardy aquarium plant that thrives in slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH range of 6.0 to 7.5 and a temperature between 22°C to 28°C (72°F to 82°F). It adapts well to low to moderate lighting, but ensuring even light distribution helps maintain its vibrant red coloration. This plant grows best in a nutrient-rich substrate and benefits from occasional root tab fertilizers. With proper care, Crypt Wendtii Red enhances the aesthetics of any freshwater aquarium with its lush, colorful foliage.

How Tall Does Crypt Wendtii Red Grow?

Cryptocoryne Wendtii Red can grow up to 20 inches (50 cm) tall, making it one of the taller varieties of Cryptocoryne. While some Wendtii variants spread out horizontally, the Red variety tends to grow vertically, adding height and depth to an aquarium. Its size makes it ideal for midground to background placement in planted tanks, providing a natural and lush appearance. Proper lighting, nutrient-rich substrate, and stable water conditions help this plant reach its full growth potential.

Why is my Cryptocoryne dying?

If your Cryptocoryne is dying or losing leaves, it may be experiencing Crypt melt, a common issue caused by sudden water parameter changes. Factors like pH fluctuations, high nitrate levels from missed water changes, or abrupt lighting adjustments can stress the aquatic plant. Transplant shock is another reason why newly planted Crypts may lose leaves. To prevent Crypt melt, maintain stable water conditions, perform regular water changes, and allow time for the plant to recover, as healthy roots can regrow new leaves.
