Description

Native to the freshwater streams and floodplains of Myanmar and Thailand, the Kubotai Rasbora (Microdevario kubotai) is a true gem of the aquarium trade. Their metallic lime-green bodies shimmer under aquarium lighting, especially when kept in large groups. As a member of the microrasbora family, they are small, peaceful, and perfectly suited for aquascapes and community aquariums.

Green kubotai rasboras remain small, reaching only 0.75–1 inch (2–2.5 cm) at adulthood. Despite their size, they are highly visible thanks to their striking neon-green coloration, which appears to glow under LED lighting. Their petite size makes them one of the most sought-after nano Rasboras for planted and aquascaped tanks.

Green rasboras are peaceful, schooling fish that thrive in groups of 8 or more, where they display the best coloration and natural schooling behavior. They are fast, active swimmers that occupy the middle and upper water columns. Ideal tankmates include other small species such as Chili Rasboras, Ember Tetras, Celestial Pearl Danios, Pygmy Corydoras, and freshwater shrimp.

Kubotai Rasbora Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are Kubotai Rasbora aggressive?

No, Kubotai Rasboras are not aggressive. They are peaceful, community-friendly schooling fish that do well with other small, non-aggressive species. Their calm temperament makes them ideal for nano aquariums and planted tanks, and they rarely bother tankmates when kept in proper schools.

Can I keep Kubotai Rasbora with shrimp?

Yes, Kubotai Rasboras can be kept with shrimp such as Neocaridina or Caridina shrimp. They are too small and peaceful to harm adult shrimp and will generally coexist without issues. Providing plants and hiding spaces will also ensure baby shrimp have protection in a mixed tank.

How many Kubotai Rasbora should I keep together?

For the healthiest behavior and most vibrant colors, keep at least 8–10 Kubotai Rasboras together. As true schooling fish, they feel more secure in groups, show better activity, and display their signature neon-green glow when kept in larger shoals.
