Types of Substrate: Flamingo

Pisces USA AquaNatural Substrates are a range of high-quality, natural substrates designed for aquariums and aquascaping. They are natural, compatible with various aquatic environments, and able to support a variety of healthy aquatic ecosystems. AquaNatural substrates come in different types and sizes, catering to the needs of all freshwater aquariums.

AquaNatural substrates are made from natural materials such as river gravels and sands. They are harvested and processed to maintain their natural appearance while ensuring they are safe and non-toxic for aquarium use. These substrates are free from artificial colors, dyes, and coatings, making them a safe choice for sensitive aquatic life, including fish, invertebrates, and aquatic plants.

All substrates have been triple washed before packaging, often resulting in low dust. This makes them easier to clean and less likely to cloud the water during setup.

AquaNatural gravels and sands are suitable for planted aquariums, offering a stable base for aquatic plant roots and promoting healthy growth.

Key Features of Flamingo Aquarium Gravel

1. Natural Composition

Natural River Gravel: Flamingo Aquarium Gravel is made from natural river gravel, ensuring that it is safe for use in aquariums. The gravel is free from harmful chemicals, dyes, or artificial coatings, making it a safe choice for fish, invertebrates, and plants.

Environmentally Friendly: Harvested from natural sources and processed with care, this gravel maintains its integrity and provides a sustainable substrate option for aquascaping.

2. Unique Appearance

Vibrant Flamingo Pink Color: The gravel features a distinctive flamingo pink hue that adds a splash of color to any aquarium setup. This color is natural and does not fade over time, making it an excellent choice for creating eye-catching aquascapes.

Varied Pebble Sizes: The gravel is composed of small, rounded pebbles that vary slightly in size. This variation enhances the natural look of the substrate and provides texture and depth to the aquarium floor.

3. Aquarium Suitability

Freshwater Aquariums: Ideal for freshwater setups, Flamingo Aquarium Gravel works well in community tanks, planted aquariums, dark water tanks, and tanks housing a variety of freshwater species.

Planted Tanks: The gravel’s natural composition allows it to work well with root-feeding plants, providing stability for the plants to anchor and grow while allowing water flow through the substrate to prevent anaerobic zones.

Dark Water Tanks: The pink colors compliment the tannins in the water to add depth and variation for a more natural look.

4. Functional Benefits

Stable Substrate for Aquascaping: The varied size and weight of the gravel pieces make it an excellent choice for anchoring decorations, plants, and other aquascaping elements.

Encourages Natural Behavior: Provides a natural environment for bottom-dwelling fish and invertebrates, allowing them to exhibit natural behaviors like digging and foraging.

Supports Biological Filtration: The gravel provides a large surface area for the growth of beneficial bacteria, which is essential for biological filtration. These bacteria help break down waste products and maintain healthy water quality.

Inert Substrate: Being chemically inert, Flamingo Aquarium Gravel does not alter the pH or hardness of the water, making it suitable for a wide range of freshwater species and setups.

5. Easy Maintenance

Low Dust: The gravel is low-dust, making it easier to rinse and clean before use. This helps prevent clouding of the water when initially setting up the aquarium.

Long-Lasting: Due to its natural composition, the gravel does not degrade or disintegrate over time, ensuring a long-lasting and low-maintenance substrate for aquariums.

How to Use Flamingo Aquarium Gravel in Your Aquarium

Prepare the Gravel: Before adding it to your aquarium, rinse the gravel thoroughly with clean water to remove any dust or fine particles that may have formed during packaging.

Layer the Substrate: Spread the gravel evenly across the bottom of the aquarium. For planted tanks, consider layering the substrate to a depth of about 2-4 inches (5-10 cm) to provide adequate space for root growth.

Add Plants and Decorations: Arrange live plants, rocks, driftwood, and other decorations on top of the gravel to create a natural-looking aquascape. The weight of the gravel will help secure these elements in place.

Fill the Aquarium with Water: Fill the aquarium slowly with water to prevent disturbing the substrate. Placing a plate or a plastic bag on top of the gravel while adding water can help minimize disruption.

Regular Maintenance: Perform regular substrate vacuuming during water changes to remove detritus and organic waste that can accumulate in the gravel. This helps maintain water quality and prevent harmful buildup.
