Description
The Golden Balloon Molly, also known as the Gold Balloon Molly Fish, is a striking and friendly livebearer fish adored for its radiant golden-yellow coloration and distinctive rounded body. Its bright metallic sheen and calm temperament make it one of the most popular choices among aquarium hobbyists.
The Golden Balloon Molly Fish is a selectively bred variant of the common molly (Poecilia sphenops), known for its curved “balloon” body shape and vivid coloration. Originally found in the warm, slow-moving rivers and coastal waters of Central and South America, this Molly fish has been cultivated for decades due to its beauty and adaptability.
With its cheerful golden tones and playful swimming style, the Balloon Molly instantly brightens planted aquariums and pairs perfectly with other peaceful freshwater fish. It’s also a livebearer, giving birth to live fry, a fascinating trait that makes it a great choice for hobbyists interested in breeding.
A full-grown Golden Balloon Molly reaches around 2.5 to 3 inches (6–7.5 cm) in length. Its distinctive “balloon” shape, short body, and slightly arched back create a charming, rounded appearance. The shimmering golden-yellow scales catch the light beautifully, especially in planted aquariums or tanks with dark substrates.
No two golden mollies are exactly alike. Some display deeper orange tones, while others glow in pale yellow hues, adding diversity and elegance to your aquarium.
Golden Balloon Mollies are peaceful, social, and active fish that thrive in small groups of five or more. They do well with other gentle species like Guppies, Platies, Swordtails, Tetras, and Corydoras catfish.
